In his first solo show, Steven Aron Williams presents Untitled*: a photographic installation cultivated over a period of five years. The exhibition reflects a conflict between reality and abstraction: identity is distorted, insignificance highlighted and ignorance challenged. The exhibit consists of over 200 images. Concurrent themes of architecture, the urban landscape, portraiture, music and fashion are intended to provoke introspection into the viewers’ perceptions of their surroundings.
Steven says ‘The images I selected for the exhibition range from direct and detailed observations to more impulsive, abstracted views. They were not preconceived, but a product of spontaneity and experimentation. Our reality can be many things: beautiful, simple, complicated. In these days of technological evolution, they can even be distorted or fabricated. The increasingly blurred line between reality and illusion has been one of my main inspirations in putting together this collection’.
The exhibition allows the viewer to encounter reality from an alternative perspective. Steven continues, ‘Ultimately, I want to captivate the viewer. They may not like or agree with my perceptions, or may think my methods are crude or irrelevant. However, if they are engaged in any way, I feel I will have achieved something’.
Steven studied at the Lincoln School of Art and since his graduation in Fashion Promotion from the University of Central Lancashire in 2005, he has worked with many names including Kalikas Armour, Bryan Morel PR, Triggerfish and John Lewis. His debut exhibition will take place at the dreamspace gallery between 7th January and 1st February 2008. In light of Steven’s belief that art should be accessible, affordable prints can be ordered throughout the exhibition.
The dreamspace gallery was established to showcase the best talent in architecture and design. Offering a platform for new designers, dreamspace encourages exhibitions from fresh talent from the art and design scene.
