"I arrived in Camberwell in 1968. I used to go on the prowl for houses. Number 178 I remember a really sluttish woman who was married to a policeman always being in her dressing gown.

Camberwell is still beautiful and tranquil, well except for the sirens. Someone said you can "hide away and lay low in Camberwell" I can't remember who?

There are more rich people here now with children. As for the poverty, I have to admit I close my eyes to it. Never carry a handbag. Somebody just took my Gucci handbag out of my hand once. I try to blend in and be anonymous. I fight to save the trees.

The woman in white is called Lilly. She used to sell her pills. The last time I saw her was when Labour came to power. She was stood by this stretch limousine filled with children. She wanted a passport to go to America but they wouldn't give her one.

There are lots of con merchants, people going to the clinics and then there are the Camberwell beauties"
